Rotherham Shotokan Karate Club © 2018
Rotherham Shotokan Karate Club was founded in September 2018 by Sensei Darren Turner (2nd Dan) Jka, Kugb and Bmaba. As a young club, It’s our aim to provide a positive impact within the Rotherham area, by providing Quality Instruction within a fun, supportive and safe environment.
Darren started Karate with the Kugb aged 11, grading with Bob Poynton and Bob Rhodes. During this time, he also trained at Crystal Palace on the annual summer residential schools. This proved to be a formative time, having trained with such greats as, Tanaka, Tabata, Shirai, Tomiyama, Kurasako, Ohta, Eneoda and many more.
Aged 16, Darren was the first member of Grantham SKC to obtain a Black Belt from the late Sensei Eneoda, followed 2 years later by obtaining his 2nd Dan grading also under Sensei Eneoda. Thirty years later, he is still training, and will be bringing his wealth of experience to the Rotherham Shotokan Karate Club.
As best practice, Instructors have been Dbs checked, are Safeguard trained, Insured and hold valid First Aid certificates.
We have chosen the High Street Centre as our training venue, as the hall space is superb, airy and large enough to cater for an expanding new club. There are toilet facilities, secure access and enough free parking for the largest of Karate clubs. Seating is also available to observe classes.
Everyone is welcome at the club. Beginners are particularly welcome, adults and children from 6 years of age please. We recommend beginners wear a loose t shirt and tracksuit bottoms to train in.
We currently charge £5 per lesson which lasts up to 90 minutes, and offers Incredible value.
Within the first 4 weeks, It’s Important to obtain a licence. These are Inexpensive at £25 for the year, and Incorporates a licence and grading book, certificate of membership and most Importantly £2 Million Pounds worth of member to member Insurance.
You’ll also need a plain white karate suit (less than £20), as these are designed to handle the new techniques that you’ll be learning. Again, these are Inexpensive but necessary. Licences and Suits can be obtained through the shop link at the top of the page. Please include full name and d.o.b of student for licences.
We will be grading every 3-4 months and will be following a strict syllabus, which promotes advancement through the attainment of new skills. Our students are our club, and by working together, we can become the biggest and best club in the region.
Karate teaches many life skills, respect, confidence, flexibility and balance. It also promotes the ability to follow Instructions, ask questions, and by training hard, the ability to grade to higher belts. You’ll be amazed at how quickly you progress. Remember, everyone starts at white belt, and we all want you to get that coveted black belt. Will YOU be Rotherham Shotokan Karate Club’s first schooled Black Belt?
